TRAVEL: Situ Maporac, Cabangan, Zambales

Long time no travel post!

I just wanted to share with you guys this beautiful place I went to for immersion. I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this but I'm majoring in Environmental Science at uni, which has helped me appreciate the environment and how everything works so much better. I won't bore you too much with details about my visions for the environment but I will share with you some pictures instead!

I had my immersion in Situ Maporac in Cabangan, Zambales. It's an aeta community located a few kilometers away from the nearest town, hidden near the mountains. They are some of the kindest people I've met and the children in the community were really friendly and sweet (this says a lot since I'm not crazy about kids). The entire experience has made me a lot more open-minded, as well as aware of certain issues and how there is so much injustice.

This just shows how certain places can really change the way you look at things, and that's what I love most about traveling and going to new places - you never come back as the same person. You always come back with a new perspective no matter how small, and the 'home' you come back to is always viewed in another way. This is why I want people to travel and see new places. It doesn't really have to be far, but you should go somewhere with a completely open mind and let it challenge and change the way you see and think about the world we live in.

Also, I hope that this place stays as pristine as it was when I left it. A lot of people say that the Philippines isn't exactly the prettiest of places to go, but I think they're just not looking in the right places. It's also nice to have these "secret places" anyway because some things are better untouched. Tourism may be good for the economy, yes, but you need to find a way to make business and the environment work so nothing is destroyed.

Oops, my major is showing. Come and look at these pictures instead!

I wish I had a picture of the river we swam in, because it was seriously the cleanest one I've seen. Just looking at these pictures again makes me wish that all places were still in this pristine state. There's just something about nature that cleanses you and makes you feel all shiny and new. I'd always recommend getting out of the city and going to a peaceful beach or the mountains to help give a fresh start because honestly, being stuck in the city is quite suffocating (and this is coming from someone who was born and raised in the city).

How about you guys? What places have changed you? Where do you go for more peaceful vacations? Leave your answers in the comments below!
